An award winning Family friendly and Pet Friendly accommodation in the heart of Bridlington. We have been running the Guest house since 2016, upgrading and modernising our Victorian building every winter. We are a pet loving family, and have a can do attitude to accommodating our guests. Having 4 children we often struggled to get suitable accommodation for our family holidays, and have used our experiences to tailor the facilities and welcome here at the Schofield. A star feature for families is being central to both Beaches, Harbour, town centre shops and cafes, so just park up and off you go. We have many guests that love bringing their dogs and walking the cliff tops and beaches, enjoying the numerous pet friendly cafes and bars. A warm friendly welcome awaits you.

Pet Friendly

Please contact us directly to arrange this facility, to ensure we can accommodate you.   We have pets ourselves and understand the distress leaving your best friend behind can have. It costs £5 per room per night to bring your Dog with you. We always Donate the first £5 to a local pet friendly Charity. In 2023 we donated £220 to the local RSPCA centre, who gave me a gracious letter and a money box for the reception desk. Your dog must be house trained and be mindful that your dog must never be left unattended, and must be kept on a lead in shared areas.

Your Dog is allowed to accompany you into our Coffee Lounge, for refreshment's. We will provide you with a map of Dog walks and Dog friendly cafes/Bars/Restaurants all within walking distance. If you order a Breakfast Basket then a hot sausage will be added at no extra cost for your dog. We are proud to say that we have always had responsible owners and well behaved dogs stay with us, this has allowed us to keep welcoming dogs to the Schofield.

Bridlington Beaches have restrictions for Dogs. Dogs can go on all Beaches from October until end of April.

Our Pets: We live on site within a separate part of the house. We have four dogs, an old king Charles called Corky who does not go afar, Martha a young King Charles.  There are 2 little Lhasa Apsos called Mabel and Matilda, whom we walk every day.  We also have a quiet Tabby cat called Lilly and you will find Fiver the chicken roaming the yard.

History

The Guest house was built in 1897 on land owned by business woman Pricilla Marshall, who died at the age of 92 in 1899. She named the street Marshall Avenue, although until 1901 it was known as Marshall Street.  As the bricks to this building were being laid Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee year as Queen of England. The Tate Gallery was opened in London and Bram Stoker's published his novel Dracula.. Bridlington was a very  popular Victorian Seaside town.

Once built the Schofield Guest House was two residential dwellings, 47 was named the Glen Roy and 49 named the Glen Saxon. ( Both boarding houses)  Mrs Schofield purchased both properties and merged them into one in 1947, It was then renamed Schofield. This was just after the Second World War, food rationing was in place, loved ones were lost and Britain was being rebuilt. Schofield has now been trading as a Guest house since 1947.

We lived in Tamworth, Staffordshire for all our lives.  We moved our family to Brid in the summer of 2016. Pauline was a Career Adviser for over 15 years working with teenagers of all abilities; Peter remains a Telecommunications Engineer covering the East coast. Together we have 4 children, Our oldest child lives near Scunthorpe working as a Chicken Farmer, 3 of our children live with us, attending local school, University and College. Our children help out over the weekends and are expert bed makers.

We took over the Business from Susan Lee who ran the guest house for many years with her husband Graham. When Graham passed away, running the Schofield single handed became tough. Susan sold the Guest House to ourselves and was very supportive in handing over the running of the business and is still on my face book for advice and support years later. So thank you Susan for all your support. We plan to run the Schofield for many years to come.

I have settled well into this delightful area, making many friends and have recently become a committee member of the Bridlington Tourist Association, to support other Guest House owners in the area, and in the strategic planning of events to encourage greater Tourism Brid. My husband in an active member of a local Bridlington Community Central Action Group to bring local people together to make positive changes to their communities. We are members of Priory Church, taking part in services and fund raising events. I also have an allotment, enjoyed growing organically and are busy planning for next season. My son is a member of Priory Choir, and takes Karate while my daughters  enjoy working at the Heart Foundation, Priory Girl Guides and competing in Bridlington Rugby club. We have settled well into Bridlington and hope to retire here ourselves.
